The conversation focused on soil testing on State land near the corner of Fain Road and Lakeshore Drive, where crews have been evaluating clay material that could be pulled from State land and used at the Iron King Mine cleanup site(s) effort near Dewey-Humboldt.

During the discussion, Brad Fain and Ron Fain clarified that the testing activity is occurring on Arizona State Trust land and not on private property owned by the Fain family. They explained that the EPA is leading the process while State agencies work alongside the federal government as part of the broader cleanup effort in the Dewey-Humboldt region.

The EPA is seeking expansive clay, commonly found throughout the Prescott Valley area, to help seal and cap mine tailings as part of the Iron King Mine remediation effort.

Brad Fain and Ron Fain noted that the testing phase is still part of an evaluation process and does not guarantee the material will ultimately be used. Any potential source must first meet environmental and engineering standards established for the remediation project.
