In response\, the mayor’s office in Honolulu proclaimed November 24th as “Jo Koy Day.” \nKoy starred in the 2022 Universal Picture film Easter Sunday\, set around a family gathering to celebrate Easter Sunday\, the comedy is based on Jo Koy’s life experiences and stand-up comedy. In 2023\, Koy appeared in Disney’s Haunted Mansion and voiced characters in Netflix’s animated films\, Monkey King and Leo. In 2024\, he was most recently heard voicing the character Monkey King in the Paramount+ film\, The Tiger’s Apprentice. \nIn 2023\, it was announced that he inked a two-special deal with Netflix. The first special was filmed this past November at The Kings Theatre in Brooklyn and will release in the summer of 2024. A twist on the classic haunted house experience– this FREE immersive Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) House will take you through a series of photo ops\, intricate displays\, and life-like animations. The experience celebrates and educates the public on the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) holiday celebrated annually on November 2nd. \nThe FREE immersive exhibit will be open on select dates: October 24th–26th and October 31st–November 2nd\, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.\, with the main event taking place on November 2nd. \nThe celebration is put on in collaboration with the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Business Association. Alcohol is not allowed.\nOffensive materials such as explicit or demeaning\, racist\, and promotion of crime\, cruelty\, and violence will not be accepted and will be removed.\nElectricity will not be provided\nAfter removal\, all traces must be cleared of the space and left in the condition it was found in. \nContest Details: \nInstallation will occur between 8am and 1pm on November 2\nJudging will occur at 2:30pm\, only altars completed by 1pm will be considered\nAnnouncement of the winner will occur at the Ofrendas at 5pm\nBreak-down\, clean-up\, and removal will occur after the winner is announced and must be completely clear by 10pm\nAltars are judged on overall appearance\, originality\, and creativity reference to traditions of Dia de los Muertos. \nSuggestions for Creating Your Altar: \nOne of the key elements of Dia de los Muertos revolves around ofrendas\, or offerings\, which are created through a visual display of altar-making and grave decorating. The offerings\, a main focal point of the observance\, echo the dedication and distinct love that is presented toward the dearly departed. Altars can be created through a wide spectrum of dedications\, depending on one’s creative desire. The altar includes the four main elements of nature -Earth\, Wind\, Water\, and Fire. \nEarth is represented by the crop: The soul is fed by the various earthly aromas. Placing fruit or favorite family dishes on the altar provides nourishment for rthe beloved souls.\nWind is represented by a moving object: Paper-Mache is commonly utilized to represent the echoes of the wind. \nWater is place in a container for the soul to quench its thirst after the long-awaited journey to the altar. Water is also used for the means of purification. \nFire is represented by a wax candle. Each candle represents a loving soul\, and an extra one is placed for the forgotten soul.
